Step 1

At your first consultation, we will assess your mouth, teeth and gums.

Once you are ready to begin treatment, at the next appointment, we begin by taking impressions of your teeth which will be used to create your custom-made braces. This is a painless process. When your fixed braces are ready, we will invite you back to the dental surgery in Mount Sorrel to have your braces fitted. This appointment will generally take between 30 and 60 minutes. First, we gently apply the square brackets to the front of your teeth. Again, this is completely painless.

Step 3

Next, the metal wire is threaded through the brackets and will be tightened to form pressure on your teeth, this is what helps your teeth to gradually move into place. Once this process is complete, your mouth may feel strange at first. You may notice pressure on your teeth, or your gums may feel a bit sore. This is normal and will settle down in a day or two. You can take paracetamol for any initial pain or discomfort.

We suggest that you eat softer foods for the first few days after having your fixed braces fitted.

Throughout the course of treatment, you should avoid eating very hard and very sugary foods as these can damage your braces.
