Dental implants from Straumann®
A dental implant is a fixed solution to replacing missing teeth. It comprises of a titanium screw which is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a tooth. This then can have either a tooth coloured implant crown attached to it to replace a single missing tooth, or an implant bridge to replace multiple missing teeth. Dental implants can also be used in conjunction with dentures to make them more secure.
Having a dental implant is unique to every patient and therefore requires detailed assessment and planning. If you feel dental implants could be a solution for you then kindly call us on 0116 2375321 and book a free consultation with our Implant Dentist Harmeet Sehmi. If however, you have any questions regarding dental implants then please feel free to email us at email@example.com.
This is a 30-minute appointment where our Implant Dentist will listen to your concerns and carry out a full detailed implant assessment of the area in question. Demonstration models of implants will be shown to you explaining the different options that may be available. Any x-rays or photographs that are taken are inclusive. After this, if you feel that you may wish to proceed forward with dental implants, then we will arrange for you to have a 3D scan of your jaw to aid us in our detailed planning.
The implant is placed into the patients jawbone under local anaesthetic. A period of 3-6 months healing is required to allow the bone to grow around the implant before a tooth is attached to it. In some cases, a tooth can be attached to the implant on the same day, however this is less common and a temporary crown or bridge can be made in the meantime to restore function and appearance.
Having a dental implant is a surgical procedure which is carried out under local anaesthetic, therefore during the procedure you will feel no pain. After treatment, you may experience some pain and swelling which can last up to 1 week. This is usually mild and well controlled with painkillers. Our team will give you a detailed aftercare advice sheet with a direct contact number to our Implant Dentist should you have any concerns after.
Each case is different depending on the treatment plan. However, in general the implant placement takes less than an hour and the addition of a tooth to the implant requires two 30-minute appointments 2 weeks apart.
Dental implants have shown to be a very predictable and long-lasting way to replace missing teeth. Widespread studies show a 95% survival rate of implants over ten years, and with implant companies constantly improving their technology, the prognosis of complex implant procedures is vastly increasing.
